Date Night!

Grant and I usually set aside one night a week to get out of the house and go eat somewhere.  Usually it's Wednesday night and usually we go to our favorite Pei Wei!  This week, however, we had a few things to celebrate, so we decided to go a little bigger and eat at a Sushi restaurant called Virago in downtown Nashville.  Grant had never been before, so we were excited to get out and try something new this week!

Things we were celebrating:

1.  Everyone is finally home!

In October of last year my mom was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer.  Although it was a scary time, she has pulled through great and just found out she is now cancer free!!! YAY!  Two weeks ago she had surgery to remove both breasts, so I made the trip to Michigan for the surgery and spent about a week with her, my step-father, and my grandparents getting her to doctor appointments, the surgery, and then home to recover.  Although she has had a few minor set backs since the surgery, overall she is doing pretty good and just resting and recovering. Here is a picture of her at home the day after surgery.  She looks pretty good for just having both boobs removed! :)

Lookin Good, Mom!
As soon as I got home from her house, Grant took off with four other pharmacy school friends for a week of relaxation in Destin, Florida, to celebrate their last spring break ever.  Although they all definitely needed the break, I was a little jealous that I was not there.  I mean, I'm so white right now it's scary!  Check out these hotties on the beach!

Josh, Todd, Grant, Brandon, & Curt!

We both finally made it safely home this last weekend, and figured that we'd only seen each other for a total of about two days out of the last 16, so we were both excited to be home together!

2.  Grant received his rotation schedule for his fourth year!

We are super excited about the schedule that he got, and even more excited that this means we are closer to being done!  Definitely worth celebrating!!

3.  We got our tax return back!

Whoo hooo!  Who doesn't love a good return?!  When I'm the only one working and your husband is in a gazillion billion dollar graduate school, this is definitely celebratory!

Here are couple pics from our night out:

If you know me at all you know how much I love ice cream and sprinkles! So, of course we had to finish the night with some cake batter ice cream and sprinkles from Sweet CeCe's.  You can't beat it!

My First Blog Post

So, I just recently found the wonderful world of Blogging!  Several of my friends have begun blogs as a way to scrapbook their families, and I thought that was a great idea so here I am!  Because I'm new here, I thought for my first blog post I would introduce you to me and my family.

Hello - I'm Emily :)  Right now it's just me and my lovely husband, Grant, living in our homey little apartment in Nashville, TN.  Grant and I grew up together, went to church and school together, and then finally starting dating during high school in Benton, KY.  We continued to date through college at Murray State University and Grant proposed at our Family Pumpkin Party on October 20, 2007.

Best Day Ever!

After 5 1/2 years of dating, we finally said "I do" on December 27, 2008, which made for one crazy Christmas that year!  Grant has continuously blessed my life, and I am so thankful that God created him for me.  He challenges me to be a better person daily and makes life so much more fun!  I could go on, but I'll spare everyone the mushy details ;)

Wedding Day!
After graduation at Murray State, Grant was accepted into Pharmacy school at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.  So, we packed up our things and headed to the big city for the next chapter of our lives.  Moving to Nashville was a BIG adjustment for both of us.  We had both grown up in a small town, with family just a few miles away, and plenty of friends to keep us company.  When we moved, we had no family, no friends, no job (for me), and no idea what we were doing.  Although the past three years have been challenging, they have also been a blessing to our marriage.  We learned to lean on each other, how to support ourselves, how to entertain ourselves, and how much we appreciate the relationships that we do have in our lives.  This is a picture from Grant's white coat ceremony in August of 2010.  Pharmacy school has definitely aged us - we look like babies!

Shortly after moving, we started to get settled into our new life here in Music City.  I found an amazing job, that I still enjoy going to everyday, and we have made some life-long friends that we can share this journey with.  Although Pharmacy school and work has dominated our lives the past three years, the end is starting to get closer..Finally!!  Grant is finishing up his third year and will soon begin rotations this summer.  It feels like we are the downhill slope, and I can't wait to see where God will take us on our next journey!

I'm going to use this blog to document some of our journey from here on out.  One day we will probably look back at this blog and remember when we were broke 20-something year olds, living in Nashville, in school, trying to survive and wonder how we evere made it!  It's been an interesting journey so far, and I feel the best is yet to come!
