Weekend Rewind - Camping, Relaxing, & a Whole Lot of Nothing

This weekend I was a single lady!  Grant went with the Marshall Co boy's soccer team camping and rafting, so I had Friday night through Sunday afternoon to catch up around the house, watch movies, shop, and just relax.  Although it was pretty nice to have some time alone, I did start to get a little bored as the weekend went on:)

Friday night I got off work and made a quick trip to the grocery and to Target before heading home to relax!  I spent the night playing on my new camera and trying to learn about my new editing software.  I'm actually getting pretty good, if I do say so myself!

This was the photo before I edited it...

And this was after!  Yes, I will be opening a photography shop later :) Just kidding!

Saturday morning I slept in and then headed to Green Hills to do a little shopping!  After leaving the mall with some new makeup and a couple of good deals from Gap, I made my second trip to the grocery for the weekend before going back home.  I spent the rest of the night watching movies and doing a whole not of nothing!  I did get back out to go pick up some dinner at Chipotle...always yummy!

I went to the 9 am service on Sunday morning, which was a little weird going all by myself since we usually have both of us and Curt and Lindsey!  But, it was a great service and I got home in time to put dinner in the crock pot and attempt to watch the pitiful display of the Ram's game.  Since Grant was out of town that meant I was the only Ram's fan in Nashville, which called for this selfie...

Even though you were terrible Rams, we still love you!
And sorry to say yes, I did sleep through half the game! That's how entertaining it was :)

Grant got home from camping around 4:30ish and had a great time!  So thankful he got to spend the weekend hanging out with Jeff, Dax, Trent, and Tucker.  I asked him to take some pictures so that I could document it on the blog and this is all I got...

Haha!  Looks like they had a great time!!

Curt and Lindsey stopped by on their way home from Cape, and we ate dinner and watched the second to last episode of Breaking Bad!  I was so thankful to finally have people to talk to! Ha!

Overall, it was a great quiet (almost too quiet) weekend at home.  Our weekends are about to get extremely full and hectic with the move to KY, so I am thankful to have at least one more to relax in Nashville.  This coming week I am leaving Grant at home solo starting Thursday night, and participating in the Walk to Emmaus with Lisa.  Looking forward to another great week!

Breaking the News to Eco

On Monday of this week, I finally told my work that I would be leaving to move back to Kentucky at the end of the year.  We always knew we would move back, but didn't really know it could be this soon and what it would actually look like.  We are excited to say we will be back in the Bluegrass State as of January 1st!  Although I am so excited to get back to KY, I am really going to miss some things about Nashville.  The traffic...no.  The shopping and restaurants...yes!  (It will probably be a little culture shock when we move back to no Target and no Pei Wei) And I am for sure going to miss the people that I work with!

I was so nervous to tell Mack (Our VP) that it took me about an hour and a half to get the nerve up to actually send him a message asking if he had time to talk.  He said he had a meeting and we could meet after lunch, but his meeting got out early and he called me back within 30 min!  I didn't really have much time to be nervous at that point.  I had been praying all morning that I wouldn't be too nervous and would say all the things that I had rehearsed in my mind, and it worked!  Thank you, Jesus!  As soon as I walked in the door, I wasn't a bit nervous and my words actually flowed out pretty easily!  I let Mack know that we would be leaving at the end of the year, but that I would LOVE to stay on and continue working from home/come to the office when needed.  He was open to the idea and thanked me for letting him know so early so they could start to plan.

WHEW!  What a relief!  We are still working out the details and logistics, so nothing is final yet, but at the minimum he thought they would definitely want to keep me on through the audit.  Yay!  I think its going to all work out in the long run, and I am glad I can finally talk about it with my close friends at work and now here on the blog :)

We've got a few things in the works for when we move home for Grant, so we are still praying that the Lord will bless those opportunities if that is what he wants us to do.  What we do know for sure is that Grant will have the month of January off, to help finish up the move, and then will do his last three rotations in Paducah and Murray.

Lots of changes/exciting things coming to the Mathis family in the near future, and lots of questions still to be answered!  I am so glad we have finally made it to this point, after what feels like forever, and can start making some more definite plans!

After I got home...so relieved!!

Lovett Cole's Baby Shower

This weekend we headed to KY to help Kip and Blair celebrate baby Lovett!  I got off work a little early, so we could head on back and make the majority of the high school football game on Friday night.  The Marshals aren't exactly an exciting playoff contending team this year, so the highlight of the game was actually when it was over and we went and got ice cream!

Saturday morning Kem and I had lots of decorating to do for the shower.  We ate breakfast with Grant and Ray, and then headed to the extension office to get things ready.  Everything turned out so cute!  Blair's family is very creative, so they added some accessories that went perfect with the fall/vintage/shabby chic decor we were going for.  After we got most everything in place, we headed to Paducah to pick up a few more items and get my new camera!!  Yay! Love it!  I have always loved taking and editing pictures, so I saved my birthday money and purchased my Nikon D5200 that afternoon!  We ended up running into Gran and Poppa in Paducah and all headed back to Mama D's for dinner.  Busy day!

The actual baby shower was on Sunday, so after church and lunch, we headed to put the finishing touches on the decor and also had a small photo shoot with Karson and Klein to test out some features on my camera!

We got a little carried away, but the camera is awesome!

Anyways, the shower turned out great!  They had a huge turnout and got a lot of the things that they registered for, without getting too many duplicates!  Blair looks great and we can't wait to meet baby Lovett!

Lots of pregnant ladies at this shower!

After we cleaned up at the shower, we went over to the Parker's house to help celebrate Lisa's 50th birthday!  Another fun weekend with friends and family!

Happy Baby Shower Kip, Blair, and Lovett!

Corynne Visits and Football is BACK

This weekend we got to babysit my niece, Corynne!  It had been a few weeks since I had seen her, so we were excited to get to spend some time with her and give my sister a break!

Corynne has just started participating in some new "activities."  She started choir (she loves music and singing), tap and ballet, and also playing soccer!  She had her first soccer game on Saturday, so Grant and I woke up early and headed to Columbia to watch the game!  Since she is only three, it was more just the kids doing some drills, but they were funny!  She didn't really understand that the concept of soccer is to take the ball away from the other team, so she wasn't too happy when someone took her new pink ball away.  We need to work on our sharing, haha!  She also kept saying she was hot, and would come over to get a drink every five minutes!  We've got a little work to do before she is ready to be the next soccer star!

She did look cute in her little uniform!

During one of her 17 visits to the sideline during the game!

So thirsty!

After the game, we loaded up and headed back Nashville.  We made a stop at Chick-fil-a, so Corynne could play in the play place!

And then went to Target to get Corynne some new fall clothes!  I kept asking her if she liked an outfit and she would say, "Noooo, that's not my size. Thank you though!" haha!

After our errands we headed home so that Corynne could take a nap.  Grant was heading over to Brandon Weldy's house to have a guy's night with his Pharmacy friends, so a couple of their wives came to our house to hang with us!  Corynne was great!  We watched a movie, she fell asleep on the couch, and woke up asking where my friends where the next morning :)

Sunday was football day!  YAY!  Corynne got up about 8:30, we went and picked up Curt and Lindsey, and then headed to the 11 o'clock service at Ethos.  Corynne went right to class and did great!  I am thankful that she is pretty independent for times like that.  After church we headed back home to get ready for the 1st Rams game of the season!  Curt and Lindsey came over to help us cheer them on!  We ate and played Pirates with Corynne before she had a HUGE blowout - like poop on the floor, toilet, me, and her, so I decided it was time to call Adrienne and send her back! haha

I took her to meet them and got home a little before halftime of the game.  It was a nail bitter, but the Rams WON! Whoo hoo!

Rams win = happy husband at our house!

We finished the night off with dinner with Curt and Lindsey and then watching an episode of Breaking Bad!  Great day!

I almost feel like I need an extra day to recover from the weekend.  I'm not used to having a three year old around!  Although it was a little exhausting, it was a great weekend with family, football, and time with friends!

Labor Day Weekend

Thank goodness for Labor Day and an extra day off of work!  Since I took off Wed-Fri, I actually got a bonus day of getting Monday off as well which made my time off seem much longer!  Grant actually got out of his rotation at about 12 on Friday, so we packed up and headed to KY for the holiday weekend.

Friday night Grant had his much anticipated fantasy football draft, and I was lucky enough to get to go to it with him (that was sarcastic).  Grant is the commissioner of the league, but we obviously don't have a house in KY for him to host the draft at, so luckily Jeremy volunteered!  His wife made some yummy chicken burritos, and we sat and listened to them talk about football for about six hours! Grant had told me before we got there to try not to talk to him, because I might interrupt him...that's how serious they are!

Ready for the draft!

Ray also had a birthday this week and turned 65!  His absolute favorite restaurant is in Dexter, MO, so after running around with Kem on Saturday morning, we all got ready and piled in the car to get some ribs!  It was about an hour and half long drive, but so worth it!

He was excited for the Ribs!

I was excited for the Okra! :)

We had found out earlier in the week that Gabbi was getting baptized on Sunday!  So, the whole family went to church at First Missionary so we could share in her special day.  We are proud of you Gabbs!  After church we made our rounds and got to visit with a few people, before we headed to Gran and Poppa's to celebrate mine and Ray's birthday with the fam.  We had a fun night with some delicious food and a pretty intense corn hold tournament!

Kemy's showing off her skills!

Look at that cute baby bump :)

It felt like we should be packing up to go home after dinner, but we got to stay one more night!  Monday we spent the morning playing with Kem and Ray's new puppy and then headed to the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

Meet Rimmy!

Before heading back to Nashville, we went to Paducah and ate dinner with my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins.  Sorry, no pics from there, but it was great to get to spend some time with them!

We had a great long weekend!  It gets harder and harder to say goodbye the longer we get to stay :(  This week is torture at work, so already looking forward to next weekend!!

Grant started his fourth rotation yesterday at Vandy's Informatics Department.  One more closer to graduation!

Happy Fall Y'all

This past week I was able to take off Wed-Fri, so that meant I got to actually do some wifely duties around the house!  I was able to cook more time consuming dinners, go to the grocery, clean, workout, and all of those other little things that seem to get neglected when I am in full work mode.  It was fabulous!  The most important thing I got accomplished was decorating for fall!  Fall means football, pumpkins, leaves, and warm colors.  It's such a cozy time of year, and the decor makes our apartment feel so homey!  Even though it was blazing hot outside, it's never too early to bring out a  little fall cheer!  Usually I would do separate decorations for fall, football, and Halloween, but this year I decided to mix them all together so I can leave most of it up through Thanksgiving.  Mainly I am doing this blog post so that I can remember how I had everything placed for next year :)

I actually made this tablecloth!  Well, it was literally the easiest thing I've ever done!  I happened to be at Hobby Lobby, looking for some decor, and came across this burlap fabric.  I am all about the Chevron this season, so I knew I had to come up with an idea to use this somehow.  I had three yards cut and decided it would be the perfect tablecloth!  It fits right in with the fall/Halloween theme.  Three yards was a little much for my table, so I just cut it to make it the correct length, left the edges frayed, for the rustic look, and done!  I also had a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby, so it only cost me $10!  It could also be cut to make a cute runner for a longer/wider table.

I tried to keep the table Halloween themed and did the island with more of the football decor.  My mother-in-law found the burlap runner and let me borrow!

We love football at our house!

Yay Pumpkins!

Another view of the table (ignore the bird)

Love this burlap pumpkin!  The other side says "Boo!" so I can turn it around when we get closer to Halloween!

More football decor!

I could get definitely get used to the stay-at-home life!  Hint, Hint, Wink, Wink...Grant :)

Happy Fall!
