House Update

We've made a little more progress this week on the house!  We now have some tile on the floor and some paint on the main walls!  We did have one minor set back this week.  Our hardwood was supposed to be in last week, but we never heard from the lady we are getting it from.  Grant called on Monday morning and it is on back order!  She said it might be another two weeks before it comes in, and then it has to acclimate to the house for a week, so it could be three more weeks before we get the hardwood in! Grrr....

 

Luckily, our list is still pretty long of "to-do's!"

 

 The tile came in!  Grant had to make two trips to Lowe's and unload about 60 boxes of tile by himself!  He was sore for about four days after that.

 

 This picture doesn't really do it much justice, but this is the half bath.  Its actually a little darker red than it looks in this picture. Since most of the main spaces are going to be browns and blacks, I thought I would freshen it up a bit with a pop of red in the half bath.  A lot of my accents and my dishes are red, so I think it's going to flow perfectly!

 

 We have tile!  Grant and Ray worked all night and laid this tile in the dining room.  It looks great!  You can see the paint color starting to go on in the background too (the brown not the yellow)  It actually looks pretty dark in this picture, but it's a little lighter in real life.  Grant's grandmother had picked this out for his uncle's house not long ago.  We loved it (and so did the rest of the family) and now about 3-4 families are using this color throughout their main spaces.  The tile is still waiting on the grout to be put in so I have to pick a color pretty quickly!

 

Our bathroom tiled!  Grant and Ray were ready to kill me after tiling this bathroom.  Apparently the 18x18 tiles I picked out have to be cut into a million pieces in smaller spaces like this bathroom.  Whoops :)  We are still waiting on door knobs, a new light fixture, new sink hardware, towel rack, and a new toilet is going in. 

 

Lot's of little things left to do, but it feels like we are getting a little closer!



We're Making A Little Progress

The last few days of 2013 and the first few of 2014 we spent everyday working at the house.  You don't realize all the little things that need to be done until you get in there and start working! 

 

We have been very lucky to have lots of people come over and help us out!  Grant's grandparents came one day and helped us clean out the inside of the cabinets.  Lisa came and helped me clean the walls and baseboards, while Trent helped Grant paint a few ceilings.  Kevin and Melisa Baker came four nights in a row to paint our bedroom and did an awesome job!  They had been wanting to help, and when we found out he used to paint for a living, we took him straight to our bedroom and bathroom to get started!  Kelly painted one of the upstairs rooms.  Karson helped with closets.  Tucker was over four or five days in a row helping paint, clean, pull staples, and anything else we needed.  Of course Kem and Ray have been a major help as well, cleaning, ripping out flooring, removing wallpaper, etc.  We have awesome friends and family!

 

Everything is starting to slowly come together.  Grant is going to pick up the tile today and the hardwood should be arriving this week as well.  The painter started on the baseboards in the kitchen and dining and is coming back this week to continue throughout the rest of the house.  I have lots of before and during pictures on my camera, so I will do a post about each room as we finish.  Here are a couple sneak peeks at the progress so far!

 Kitchen and dining areas so far.  We have ripped out all the flooring, taken down the wallpaper that was in both areas, cleaned the cabinets, painted the ceiling, and even put most of our dishes in the cabinets!  We are waiting on the paint to be done in both of these rooms and tile will be going down in both places as well.

 

 Our bedroom that Kevin and Melisa painted.  I knew I wanted a green in our bedroom, so I finally decided on this bronze green!  I love it!  Since I graduated high school, I have never been able to have color in the bedroom due to being in the dorms or in different apartments.  I think it is going to look great with our dark hardwood floors, black furniture, and bight colored bedspread!

 

 One of the upstairs bedrooms that Grant's aunt, Kelly, painted.  When Landon was a senior in high school she re-did her room with this color and it looked awesome!  We all loved it and started calling this color Landon Grey.  A few of our family members have since used this in their houses.  This room will eventually be a nursery, so I went ahead and painted it this color so that it can go for boy or girl.

 

Tucker has been awesome to help us out the past few days.  Grant and I kept telling him he didn't have to come, but he kept showing up!  Not many 16 year olds would spend their Christmas break working 12 hours a day!  We bought him his favorite chicken nuggets so that he could just throw them in the oven while he's at our house!  He was modeling them for me :)

 

It is so exciting to see some progress being made!  Hopefully by the end of January we will be mostly through with everything and starting to get settled in. Yay!

 



Happy FIVE Year Anniversary

Grant and I celebrated our FIVE year wedding anniversary on the 27th!  I can't believe it has already been that long.  I say it every year, but with the chaos our family has at Christmas, I really don't know how we ever pulled off a wedding two days after Christmas!  I am so thankful for the relationship that we have and the fact that after five years of being married and ten years of being together, he still doesn't really get on my nerves (too much!)

 

We both worked on that day and were headed back to Kentucky that night, so our anniversary was really exciting!  We stopped at Chipotle in Clarksville on our way back to Kentucky, and although it wasn't fancy, it was delicious!

 

Once we made it back to Kentucky, the most exciting thing was that we pulled into our house!!  So fun!  We spent the rest of the night working on a few things around the house and then pulled our guest mattress upstairs and slept there for the very first time!  Although everything was a wreck, and I honestly don't know where half of our stuff is, it was exciting just to say we were spending the night in our house.

 We are replacing all of the flooring in the bottom level.  Grant was pulling out staples from the carpet in the living room.

 

 Our make-shift bedroom for the night!  The bedrooms upstairs still had carpet, so we decided they would probably be the best option for our sleepover :)

Happy Five Year Anniversary, Grant!  I have a feeling this year is going to be one of our best!



Christmas Day

Christmas Day was spent with Grant's family.  Clay woke us all up around 6:30 and told us that Santa had came!  He was so excited!  Santa brought way too many presents, but we had a great morning opening them up and exchanging gifts between each other.

Kem and Ray's house was mass chaos while we were there.  This was a picture we took with all of the dog owners.  6 adults, 1 seven year old, and three dogs made for some great memories :)

 



Grant's family tradition is to have breakfast/brunch at his grandparents house after everyone has gotten up and had Santa. So, about 9:30 we headed over to his grandparents for the next round of Christmas! Our family is now up to around 30 people, so it was crazy!! We ate breakfast, opened presents, and then just hung out for a few hours before we headed on to the next one.

Around 4ish we headed out to the dam to have Christmas with the cousins.  We all brought our left over food and the kids exchanged presents.  Grant and I had to head back to Nashville that night to work the next morning, but Courtney and Kelly stayed all night with the kids at the cottage.

It was another great Christmas celebrating with Grant's side of the family.  We are so blessed to have so many people to spend the day with.  After Christmas things got even crazier as we went back to work for a couple of days in Nashville, came back to Kentucky, started working on the house, and are still trying to keep some sanity while our things are everywhere!

Christmas Eve

Every year we spend Christmas Eve with my family at my grandparent's house.  It has always been one of my favorite days of the year!  My grandmother is quite the decorator so her house is always so pretty for the holidays!  This year, she had just had surgery a few days before, so she wasn't allowed to do as much as she usually likes to do.  So, instead of my grandmother cooking, my aunt Janet made lasagna, we opened presents, played games, and had a great time celebrating Christmas Eve together!

We had a great Christmas Eve celebrating with my family.  Love our family tradition!  We got in lots of quality family time, opened way too many presents, and made some special memories.  As my grandparents are getting older, I am starting to really appreciate the time that we get to spend together.  After we had packed up, Grant and I headed to his parents house to get ready for the chaos of Christmas Day!
